OBS UBIN trip! Superb!
Day 1
0500, in my bed
I was woken up by my 'enthu' dad. A little frustrated cos I'm supposed to reach kovan mrt by 730am and I could actually set off from home at 630. hmm, just wondering why I got up so early for...
0800, Rainy,Punggol Jetty.
OBS started early -.-" (I suppose rain was meant to be a test of your endurance).
We board a boat and set off from mainland...
0900, OBS CAMP 1 , HEAD COUNT
wooh, we had to arrange ourselves in rows to do a head count of 107!
and the lesson learnt was 'EVErYone COUNTS'
what an impact for a start!
I was in the group BOSENG! and guess what? My instructor's nick was LJ! ( pls dont ask me why, hahas)
We proceed with a group photo before a little orientation to the camp and some ice breakers.
Noon. We were introduced to some climbing skills like belaying and harness wearing. Before we could catch a breath, the first challenge begins!
A 13m structure!
(suddenly,I regretted not exercising enuf beforehand)
But anyway, I still went up with another buddy and managed to pull myself together to reach the top! cos I din wan to disappoint my buddy and ppl encouraging down there.
The feeling of accomplishment was overwhelming!
Day2
We set off into the forest for our land expedition. A journey of about 10km in the humid environment and went a 13kg bagpack! The best part was we were supposed to navigate around with a compass and map, so we really did grid reference reading! In the end, We din get lost! **proud**
1600.Heavy downpour.Trapped in the shelter!
1730. Set off to our outdoor campsite at the coast filled with rubbish...(err, no nice sceneries lor)
We pitched our tents and cooked our dinner with mess tins and some can food. Simple but delicious. Perhaps, we are just too hungry! =)
After that, we slept through the cold rainy night.
DAY3
0500. Sunrise. PAck tents.
0900. Basics of kayaking strokes + capsize drills
1100. Set off for our sea expedition with our triyaks!
Really enjoyed kayaking, cos the breeze was refreshing. A total new experience of moving along with the waves!
5hours later. 11km journey conquered. We landed in OBS camp and did the washing of the equipments!
(at that point, my arms 'were not mine' already)
0900. We did a science project of an 'egg laucher' with the materials that we could purchase with our accumulated credits. TEam spirit sets in...
Day4
0600.
THE launching of the eggs! Although ours was not the furthest, but we were contented with the result! The brain cracking process of improvising our 'tray bo shay' was really fun! Most importantly, our precious egg din crack!
0900.
Blindfolded. Left alone.
LJ bought us to a forest and led us one by one to a 'tunnel'
I was told to climb down a structure similar to a well. Surprisingly, it was a tunnel and I was left alone to find my way out.
It was pitch black after I removed my blindfold. A little panicky. But managed to settle down after a few seconds before I started to climb forward, faster and faster...
Then, the lid opened! I saw light!! ( for a second I felt like some jap ghost climbing out of a 'well' hahas)
The experience was intense, unforgettable.
1300. LAst commitment test!
A leap forward towards your goal!
We had to climb up to a platform about 2-3 storey high. One deep breath before we leap forward to cling onto the bar in front of us. Our nerves were pulling together, but we managed to conquer our uncertainties...
Quotes were given after each activity. We could really relate it to our previous experiences and that was what that made it special...
Life is just like crawling in a tunnel. You can never anticipate any obstacles ahead of you, but once you have set your ultimate goal, just go forward and don't look back. You might be alone sometimes but persevere and have faith in yourself. Fear not and u'll soon reach the brighter side of the future...Just like what the instructors said, the real OUTWARD BOUNDS would begin now, back in mainland s'pore...
